Mum tries out MAC OSX 10.2 Jaguar (2002)
Mum tries out MAC OSX 10.2 Jaguar (2002) is the 7th episode in the OSFirstTimer series.
Description[edit | edit source]
Please note that this is not the first mac operating system! I meant to say at the beginning of the video that it was the first mac operating system she has tried.
After avoiding it for a while due to emulation difficulties I finally decided to let her try MAC OSX 10.2 Jaguar. Although it was a long slow process to get her used to this operating system and able to confidently use it she loved it by the end of the video giving it the title of her favorite operating system to date (excluding Windows XP) taking the lead and pushing Linux Mint to 2nd place.
OS Info[edit | edit source]
The Operating System was made publicly available on 23rd August 2002. The operating system set the template for newer Mac operating systems, and many systems from the recent years look very similar. The operating system introduced many new features including an Address Book and an e-mail client.

Diana's Review[edit | edit source]
- At the beginning of the video, when Philip announced the name of the operating system, she misunderstood "Mac OS X" as "Mac OSsex" (because Philip pronounced X as a letter and not as the number 10.) and began getting remarking, "Hope it's not rude!" Diana proceeded to try the operating system anyway.
- She liked this operating system, even better than Linux Mint and put it high on her list of best operating systems.
- She mainly liked the magnification of the dock.
- Her only main complaint was the close buttons on the windows as she struggled to close them thinking the window buttons were just a decorative pattern "pretty colours" she didn't like that the symbols were hidden when the button isn't hovered over.
- She initially thought that the OS had a start menu like Windows and attempted to find it in the bottom left, she was told by Philip that there would be serious copyright issues with Microsoft if Mac OS X had a start menu, due to the OS not having the familiar start menu she was used to, she struggled to find applications e.g. writing the text document.
- She liked OS X Jaguar more than Windows 8 and said that there were features it had she would like in Windows XP, 1 being the dock.
