Philip Adams

Philip Adams (Philip Joseph Adams) , an Australian, born 21st April 1994, is the 20 year old host, director, and OS preparer for the OSFirstTimer YouTube Channel. He is also the creator of the time-travel indie hacking game Histacom and the famous "make your own OS" game called ShiftOS. He is currently living with his family: Diana Adams and Ben Adams (his parents), and his little sister Jasmine Adams.

According to the history of OSFirstTimer, his exploration into operating systems began when Philip asked for a computer to play a math game called Math Blaster: In Search of Sprot on. Diana and Philip arrived at a computer store and bought a computer with Windows XP on it (it is unknown whether it was Professional or Home Edition). They also looked for the math game Philip wanted, but the store didn't have it. However, there were several games that were compatible with Windows 95 and Windows 98. The lady at the store failed to mention though that they could probably run the games on XP even though they were intended for an earlier operating system. They bought a few other games but after a while Philip got bored of them and wanted to see what else his computer could do, without any access to the internet. So, for several years he explored Windows XP and what it could do, sparking his interest in operating systems. However, after a few years his computer kept crashing, gave him a BSOD and failed to boot. He then bought a new PC on the day Windows Vista was launched in Australia. He did explore Vista too, but not as much as XP. He also then got the internet, and used to play RuneScape online. He then found out about a program called Virtual PC and downloaded it on his computer along with a copy of Windows 95. He kept downloading operating systems making several virtual machines running several versions of Microsoft Windows, and did YouTube videos on them. He also became interested in the development of Windows and always stayed up-to-date on what Microsoft had introduced in terms of Windows.

When he was 12, he became interested in making Time Lapses, and posted them on his 12padams Youtube Channel, but deleted them after a while because the channel never became popular. At that time he also created a channel called "21padams", but he only uploaded one video, where he reacted to "Two Girls, One Cup". He then started another channel, I2padams, which was similar to 12padams with tutorials he had to do in school, called Up to Date (apparently 'terrible') along with all of his Astral Projection videos and other random stuff, like his sister playing Minecraft and how to run CodeLink on an iPad 2. He also advertised Histacom, a hacking game where you start in Windows 95, and eventually upgrade to Windows XP in 2002, where there is someone destroying the internet, and you have to go back to the past to fix the future. Development on Histacom stopped sometime in 2014, and was picked up about a month ago by several members of ShiftOS forum.

One day, he learnt about RSI in school, and a little while later, he got it. For a while, he stayed away from the computer as it hurt him and wrote a couple of books, until he read an article online about TMS, a possible cure for RSI. He then made Let's Plays on a new YouTube channel called AstralPhaser. On this channel he played games such as Minecraft but wanted to try new games and couldn't because he hadn't finished the old ones first.

He eventually became bored with the games and since he had cured RSI, he became interested in Windows 8 development, and when it came out, he had his mum try it, alas, the OSFirstTimer channel began. The channel's main aim is for his mum to try and find replacements for Windows 8. Now, they do it for fun, as his mum now has a Windows 8 laptop to replace her old Toshiba Windows XP one. They used the (what they called the "shaky cam") method, until the Windows 95 video, where they started to use a green screen to show the operating system and Diana/Ben. On May 17, 2014, he started to make "Dad Tries Out" videos. On OSFirstTimer they also do tutorials, unboxings, and comment videos. A month later, he had also made a channel called TerrifiedMum, with his mum trying scary games.

Philip made a channel in early 2014 called ArchLinuxAdventures, where he started in a terminal in Arch Linux and eventually evolved it by downloading the LXDE desktop environment, Compiz, and many more compatible programs. It was originally meant to have around 512 episodes, but it only had 15, (ep. 0-14) as it was hard enough to focus on his OSFT channel, and Philip wanted to work on ShiftOS more.

He had a website on freeforums for the OSFT channel, but constant attacks from MalwareUp starting in February 2014 caused him to give the forum away in April. Currently the forum is an archive. The successor of this forum currently is at http://tech-talk.ml.

Philip worked on ShiftOS, a game where you start with just a terminal and evolve it into a fully-functional graphical interface (like ArchLinux), however he has stepped down from its development, and now two new people are admins and developing ShiftOS.

In late 2014, he created a YouTube channel called "OSFT Historic Vlogs", where he publishes old and new, non-OSFirstTimer related videos such as videos from his childhood and parts of his daily life nowadays or a few years ago.

As of early 2015, he has 8 channels - 21padams, I2padams, AstralPhaser, OSFirstTimer, TerrifiedMum, ArchLinuxAdventures, ShiftOS and OSFT Historic Vlogs, but 9 if you include his deleted 12padams channel. Only his OSFirstTimer, TerrifiedMum, AstralPhaser and OSFT Historic Vlogs channels are currently active.
